Israeli pair Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich’s new status as their nation’s first grand slam doubles champion team has made them so popular in their home country even the Prime Minister has trouble getting hold of them. They put Israel on the grand slam map.
Ram and Erlich downed French veterans and reigning Wimbledon champions Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra 7-5 7-6 (7-4) in the Australian Open men’s doubles final to make Israeli tennis history.
